  1. John,
Bea Wain was born on April 30, 1917, and will be 99 years young in six days. She sang two of the top three songs from 1938-1939 and several other hits, and she is still with us. It might be a good time to remember a great lady of song.

  10. John,
The Pinetoppers, a country group, had two top 15 songs hits on the pop charts in 1951: Mockin' Bird Hill (10-April 1951) and Lonely Little Robin (14-July 1951). Vaughn Horton, a founding member of the group, wrote 'Mockin' Bird Hill.

Could you please look for and/or even re-create the following two historic albums:
1950 (As Introduced By) The Pinetoppers (Coral 9-8039)
    1956 The Pinetoppers (Coral 57048)

Thank you for the above Billie Holiday album. With your much appreciated help, I believe I have completed her collection, including all of the original box sets and studio albums, totaling 80 albums.

And with reference to Hugo Winterhalter, and your previous help with his 1955 ''Always'' album, I think I have complete his collection of 30 albums by recently finding the 1957 ''Gershwin - Rhapsody In Blue'' album for sale on Amazon, many thanks again.

  13. John,
Through the years of music charts history (The Hit Parade), there have been a few great two-sided pop hits, but perhaps the greatest two-sided pop single never hit the charts because of bad timing:
In December 1953 Capitol release 45 rpm 2882:
"I Love You, Yes I Do" (1(3)-Feb, 1948 on The R&B charts by Bull Moose Jackson backed with "Money Honey" (1(11)-Nov, 1953-Feb. 1954 also on The R&B charts. Each side, proven hits, should have been number-one on the pop charts, for each song was much ''better'' than the number one pop song of the year, ''Wanted'' by Perry Como. Ella Mae missed out on the great pop chart success Pat Boone and Georgia Gibbs achieved with R&B songs a year and a half later. Two fabulous songs should have been the greatest two-sided pop single of 1954 and of maybe of all time.

  16. John,
Thanks so-o much for introducing me to Jimmy Young, how could it be that over 70 years of collecting, I have never heard of him? A great singer, who sang so many top American hit songs, my songs, from 1951-1958, the songs that I was raised on.

I immediately went over to Amazon and purchased two very large collections of his songs, then I arranged all the 78s & 45s, A&B sides in
chronological order listing the American chart history, for example:
"Too Young" (Polygon 109) (July 1951) (1(8)-June-Aug. 1951 by Nat (King) Cole. (the #1 song on the first Top 35 Hit Parade chart that I transcribed off of the radio, "Jezebel" and "Rose, Rose, I Love You" a two-sided hit by Frankie Laine were #2 & #3 on that chart)

His other US charting songs by American performers in chronological
order were: "Vanity", "You Belong To Me", "Kiss Of Fire", "Be Anything (But Be Mine)", "Till I Waltz Again With You", "Why Don't You Believe Me", "I'm Walking Behind You", "Eternally", "Wish You Were Here", "Ebb Tide", Because Of You", "And So To Sleep Again", It's All In The Game", "My Favorite Song", "The Nearness Of You", "Ebb Tide", "Melancholy Me", "Little Things Mean A Lot", "Unchained Melody", "No Arms Can Ever Hold You", "Chain Gang", "The Wayward Wind", "More", "Round And Round", and "A Very Previous Love".

    To be continued:

  17. John.
His US charting songs by American performers in chronological order that were not included in the two Amazon collections are: "Cry", "The Little White Cloud That Cried" by Johnnie Ray, "Turn Back The Hands Of Time" by Eddie Fisher, "Take My Heart" by Al Martino, "Even Now" by Eddie Fisher, "Say You're Mine Again" by Perry Como, "Keep It A Secret" by Jo Stafford, "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me" by Karen Chandler, "Is It Any Wonder" by Joni James, "Here" by Tony Martin, "Walkin' After Midnight" by Patsy Cline and "Volare" by Dominico Modugo.

Would you please consider locating these songs on the internet and including them in a bonus collection? If so, we will be able to pay proper respect to a wonderful British singer who had a unique tie-in with American hits :-). Thank you, and thank you for all the music all these years.

I found The Pinetoppers (above) on The Internet Archive and The Nutty Squirrels in File Factory. For the latter if you combine "Uh Oh, Parts 1 and 2" with two big band classics, "Flamingo" & "Skylark" you will have a wonderful jazzy EP.

Now 68 years you are posting the first albums that I have seen by her; what a generous surprise gift. Thank you very much for helping to preserve her recordings.
